Flying to
the UK

There are different rules depending on whether your pet is coming from an approved or non-approved country.

At High Tails we’ve got the tools to make sure your furry friend arrives in to the UK safe and sound. If you need any further information on the rules that may apply when travelling with your pet into the UK, just call on our friendly team on
0800 012 9199 who’ll be happy to help.

Flying from EU or other approved countries

You will need:

Microchip

One must have been inserted before the rabies vaccination.

Rabies vaccination

This must be administered after the microchip has been inserted. All pets must be at least 12 weeks old at the time of vaccination and 21 days must pass from the date of vaccination before entry in to the UK. The date of vaccination is counted as day 0.

Tapeworm treatment (Dogs only)

Unless arriving from Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway, dogs must have a treatment against tapeworm issued by a vet no less than 24 hours before arrival and no more than 120 hours before arrival. The treatment must contain the active ingredient Praziquantel.

Flying from non-approved countries

You will need:

Microchip

Rabies vaccination

This must be administered after the microchip has been inserted. All pets must be at least 12 weeks old at the time of vaccination. A blood sample must be taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and a blood test taken. The date of vaccination is counted as day 0. The sample must be tested at one of the EU’s approved laboratories.

3 month wait

You will need to wait 3 months from the date that the blood sample was taken (NOT the date of testing) before entry in to the UK.
